Cafe Rose Red, a great Bruges bar

It only opened a few years ago, but in my opinion, Cafe Rose Red is one of the top three beer cafes in the beautiful medieval city of Brugge (Bruges.) Kris Veireman, who is the general manager of both Hotel Cordoeanier and the attached cafe, is a very passionate beer lover who is a great ambassador for artisanal beer.

One only need to look at last week’s draft selections to verify. With Cantillon 100% Lambic, Saison Dupont, Dupont Redor Pils, De Struise Brouwers Elliott Brew on tap, you know he “gets it.” And he was down one draft, too: he has six taps at Rose Red. Kris also carries lambic beer in bag-in-box form sometimes.

It doesn’t stop there. The bar is also an Orval Ambassador cafe, and stocks over 120 well-chosen bottled beers from over 50 different breweries. There is a large selection of lambic brews, regional, and other specialty brews from around Belgium. Rose Red also specializes in Trappist beers, so they stock most of the ones available in Europe.

Add to this, the fact that Cafe Rose Red just plain feels classy, without being pretentious. Note to beer lovers traveling with your significant other: bring them here. It can set the mood. 🙂
