At Oude Geuzestekerij de Cam in the village of Gooik (Dorpsstraat 67A) the ever hard-working Karel Goddeau will be open, showcasing his fabulous beers. De Cam Oude Geuze, Oude Kriek, Kriek Lambiek, Framboise Lambiek, Lambiek Speciaal and other beers are highly sought after.

As to what might be on offer during Toer de Geuze weekend, Karel Goddeau told me: “We are going to keep things simple this year. We will have potte keis (pottekaas, a funky/stinky white cheese local to the area) as well as bottles of various De Cam beers. I have not yet decided whether I will offer anything on draft, although I do know which barrels are full of my favorite lambics, and lambics with fruits. So we shall see as far as draft. Remember that lambics are meant to be shared, and sharing bottles is the way it should be.”

At Brouwerij De Troch in Wambeek (Langestraat 20) is sure to have various lambics available from draft or barrel, as well as their Oude Gueuze and Oude Kriek. Brewery owner and brewmaster Pauwel Raes and the De Troch crew have been steadily increasing the quality of their beers for some years now, and the historic brewery is well worth a visit. Some of the buildings date to 1795, and the old brewhouse is still used.
