One must-visit during Toer de Geuze is the Hanssens Artisanaal lambic blendery in Dworp, at Vroenenbosstraat 15. Hanssens is rarely open the public these days (no doubt a quality of life decision by owners Sidy Hanssens and husband John Matthys) so Sunday, May 7 will be a prime opportunity to visit this superb lambic producer. Hanssens will not be open the Saturday.
Here is what Sidy Hanssens told me in late April: “We will have Oude Geuze, Oude Kriek, Oude Schaarbeekse kriek, framboos, cassis, scarabecca = pure Schaarbeekse lambiek. The food is all home made: Belgian fries, pork farm grown pig from friend on a spit with vegetables, home made liverpate, eggsalade from our chicken, home dried saucigses smokend on hanssens old oak barrels chips, a special apero from geuze and cava. We will also have wulken in geuzesoep.”
Looks like Hanssens will be a great visit, as always!
