Heist-op-den-Berg has a new beer bar, and it’s a fine addition to the local beer scene. Taverne ‘t Rond Punt (“The Roundabout”) is located, appropriately, just off a roundabout a few km south of the city. This is the second bar run by Rudi Vets and his wife, Gerda.
“t Rond Punt stocks about 60 well-chosen beers, including many of the Trappist brews, and at reasonable prices. Orval, all three Rochefort beers, and both Westmalle Dubbel and Tripel cost just 3 euros each. The Achel and La Trappe brews are likewise priced. Local brews such as Gouden Carolus Classic, Tripel, Hopsignoor, and Manenblusser are on offer, as well as other regional brews, as well as Moinette and Avec les bons Voeux from Brasserie Dupont.
The Roundabout also has a diverse food menu, though you can come here just to drink it you like. I enjoyed a Belgian staple: spaghetti bolognaise, paired with a Moinette. The menu also features Belgian classics like stoofvlees, as well as steaks, chicken, shrimp, and many appetizers such as croquettes. Pancakes, waffles, and ice cream are also on offer.
‘t Rond Punt calls itself the coziest pub in Heist-op-den-Berg, and the service is indeed very warm and friendly. It’s a fine locals bar/restaurant with a solid beer and food menu. Get there if you are in the area. It is located at the roundabout where the N10 and Lostraat meet.
