Belgium in a Box, Belgium’s premier International packaging and shipping service and on-line beer shop, now has a number of different methods by which you can have beer or other related items that you have obtained during your travels packaged and shipped home. Read on for full details. Note that Belgium in a Box is also often known as “BIAB.”
If you are in Antwerp, you can take your brews/items to the BIAB shop, and they can take care of all the packaging and shipping. The shop is open from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, 10 am till 4 pm on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays. The address is: Clara Snellingsstraat 76, in Deurne, postal code 2100. This is east of the city center and outside of its ring road, a ten minute drive from Antwerp’s Central train station. You can take a taxi to the shop if you do not have a car. Belgium in a Box owner Kurt Verbiest has even been known to pick up customers at Central Station and drive them to the shop and back, if time permits. The shop’s telephone number is 32 479 419 679. If you are calling from a Belgian phone, make that 0479 419 679. You can also try 32 334 530 41 (033 453 041 if calling from a Belgian phone.)
Shipping costs will vary depending on the destination. For example, U.S. shipping fees are as follows: 10 kg = 60 euros; 15 kg = 70 euros; 20 kg = 80 euros; 25 kg = 90 euros; 30 kg = 100 euros. For shipping costs to other countries, see the website for details or send a mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org. To have beer shipped home that you bought somewhere other than the BIAB shop, BIAB’s packing fees are as follows: 20 euros for each 10 kg (22 pounds) of weight. So that equates to 20 euros for a 10 kg box, 30 euros for a 15 kg box, 40 euros for a 20 kilo box, and 60 euros for a 30 kg (66 pound) shipment. IMPORTANT:***Note that shipping a box that is just under 30 kilos will give the lowest shipping cost per bottle. Note that about 29.9 kilos would equate to about 18 bottles in the 75 cl size, or about 33 bottles in the 37.5 cl size.***
Here is more from Belgiuminabox and Kurt about their shipping services: “Together with the customer, BIAB is always trying to optimize the weight of the shipment to maximize capacity so that the available space and weight is used optimally. This lowers the overall costs of the items shipped to customer’s homes. Also, the package tracking information is mailed as soon as the customer has paid for their purchase, and the bottles are then packed and made ready for shipment. Belgium in a Box provides all necessary communication and feedback to the customer during the process. Communicating with the customer is something that Belgium in a Box finds very important.”
If you do go to the Belgium in a Box shop, you can also do some additional shopping while there. Belgium In a Box offers a big selection of Belgian beers, with about 1,200 different brews on offer. These include hard to find lambic brews (such as Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, Oud Beersel and others) as well as Trappist brews and many other Belgian beers. Kurt says: “Belgiuminabox aims to provide a service offering Belgian quality beers worldwide, paying special attention to difficult to find Belgian Trappist beers and cheeses, aged and vintage Geuze, fruit-lambic ale, brewery glassware, pub-memorabilia, enamel brewery signs, pates, and more.”
If you happen to be a lambic lover and a fan of the fantastic 3 Fonteinen brews (and what lambic lover isn’t?) you can purchase beers and other items, such as glassware, t-shirts, sweaters, lambic baskets, and more, at the 3 Fonteinen retail shop at the lambik-O-droom site in Lot, and leave them for later pick up and shipping by Belgium in a Box. 3 Fonteinen’s lambic-O-droom is easily accessible via a short train ride from Brussels. For more details and a look at two brewing days at 3 Fonteinen, see this previous article. The address for the lambik-O-droom is Molenstraat 47, 1651 Lot, Belgium. The telephone number is 32 2 306 71 03.
For details about 3 Fonteinen’s planned 25 million euro expansion, see this article here.
If you are visiting Brussels, please note: ***You can no longer take beers to leave with Brussels Beer Project to be shipped.*** That project has ended.
You can now go to La Source Beer Company, a new brewpub in Brussels, and have Belgium in a Box pick up your brews and package and ship them to your home.
La Source Beer Company recently opened a new location in BE-HERE, the former Byrrh building, which is owned by the city of Brussels. BE-HERE is managed by Brussels Business Hubs (“2Bhub” for short) which aims to promote local economic and social development by hosting, launching and supporting economic activities in Brussels.
From the BE-Here website: “Companies targeted by the project center primarily in or around the sustainable food chain, but also social economic projects, which generate employment. One of the purposes of the project is to become a showcase of sustainable food.”
BE-HERE is located just north of the Tour and Taxis event center, which is northwest of Brussels North (Nord) train station, on a canal. The address is Rue Dieudonné Lefèvre 4, Brussels. The closest metro station is Pannenhuis. La Source Beer Company is located to the back left side from the entrance hall.
This from La Source Beer Company: “La Source is a unique and bold project. Not only a brewery, we are a Brewpub – a gathering point where fresh craft beer is poured directly from the tanks in the new Be-Here hub.”
No question, this sounds like a great place for a brewery! Due to the cost of staffing and time spent dealing with receiving beers to be packaged and shipped later by Belgium in a Box, the cost of this service will be 7.5 euros per person who is shipping beers. This will be paid directly to La Source Beer Company. This does not include the cost of packaging and shipping beers by Belgium in a Box. Opening days and hours for beer drop-off will be Wednesdays to Fridays, from 4 to 7 pm; and Saturdays and Sundays from 2 till 7 pm. While you are there dropping off beers to be shipped, you could enjoy a fresh La Source beer, right from the bright tanks! The information in the image above says there are 15 seasonal beers available on draft, with five of those poured directly from La Source’s 600 liter tanks. Enjoy!
If you visit nearby Beersel, you can also buy beer, glassware, t-shirts, chocolates, and other items in the Oud Beersel shop and leave them to be picked up, packaged, and shipped home by Belgium in a Box. The Oud Beersel shop usually has a very comprehensive selection of their lambic brews and other beers, in both bottled form an in bag-in-box format. The shop address is Laarheidestraat 230-232, 1650 Beersel, Belgium. The telephone number is 32 2 680 79 54.
The shop is currently open from 9 am to 2 pm every Saturday, but those hours will likely increase in the future when the “In ’t Bierhuis Oud Beersel” cafe reopens to the public next door, sometime in late 2019 or in 2020.
